Week Thirty Three

Division One
Milly Goes Back To Back !
Village A aided their survival cause with an impressive 5-4 win at Fords B – Two enormous frames from Andy Molyneux 91-3 and Ste Millington 115-2 including breaks of 81 and a 25 clearence.
It looks like going down to the wire at the top as all the title chasers drop points – Overton accounted for table topping St Bedes 5-4 with Chris Achilles 103-15 the pick of the bunch slaying quality opposition.
Fords A suffered a shocking 6-3 away defeat at the hands of WCC A – Star performances from Rob Taylor 61-34 and Kipper Kennaugh 44-33.
Third place Widnes Cons A failed to make significant ground after only winning 5-4 – Tony Cook 77-34 and Andy Grice 73-60 with high performance displays.
RAOB continued their roller coaster ride eventually coming home 7-2 winners – Shaun Cosgrove 67-43 and Andrew Pennington 69-41 including a nice 32 break.
Simms Cross A took out relegated Runcorn Cons B 6-3 – Mark Bingham the pick of the pack after running out a 65-34 winner.
Defending champions St Josephs A were back to their best annihilating Runcorn Cons A 9-0 – Andy Burke 72-21 and Dave Staniford 67-37 got them off to the best possible start.

Division Two
USC opened the door to the chasing pack as they fell 7-2 at the hands of Birchfield C – Anthony Clarke 69-28 and Paul Hilton 76-46 upsetting the title favourites.
Widnes Cons C threw their hat back into the ring thanks to a 9-0 demolition of Shield Finalists HGSC A – Anchormen for the cons – Darren Attwood 82-32 and Phil Henderson 84-18 ended the rout.
Millbrow A stumbled to a 5-4 win – Mark Peach 68-36 and Rico Locke 87-21 including a 25 clearence. (Jeff Evans chipped in with a 104-29 frame in vain for Simms Cross B).
Corporation A impressed against Stadium B 6-3 – Mark Freeman 61-30 and Rob Morris 46-38 ensured the win.
Farnworth B also matched that score winning 6-3 – Big frames from Paul Coughlin 74-34 and Norman Beesley 62-38.
Widnes Rec won the basement battle against Village B 5-4 – Alan Fox 48-42 and Paul ‘Orient Express’ Antrobus 77-12.
WCC C also ran out 6-3 winners – Peter Foster 68-35 and Phil Spencer 62-24.

Division Three
It’s tough at the top as Farnworth C found out as they stumbled to a 5-4 away win at Village C – Paul Williams 62-32 and Clive Rimmer 68-45 including a 22 clearence.
This wasn’t enough  however as Prescot Reform A routed Stadium D 9-0 – Ste Barlow 74-49, Colin McCarthy 83-29 and Ray Baldwin 97-10.
Corporation matched that winning 9-0 themselves – Tony Rawlinson 86-34 and Brian Mercer 76-36 showing the youngsters the way.
Widnes Cons B showed their form as they brushed aside WBC 7-2 – Former Bowling Club stalwarts Ged Connor 66-44 and John Tighe 68-31.
Stadium C also remain in contention after an impressive 8-1 drubbing of Prescot Reform B – Kyle O’Neil 56-24 and Mark Ogburn 104-8 doing the damage.
Farnworth Knights eased past Oddfellows 6-3 – Ste Brennan 74-21 and Dean King 68-37.

 

Week Thirty Two

Division One
Milly eases relegation woes !
Village A gained a much needed 5-4 home win against defending champions St Josephs A – Richie Whittle 73-18 was steady whilst Ste Millington 101-24 opened up a can which included a fantastic 82 break.
Title challenging Fords A impressed again winning 7-2 – Pat Horne 114-15 and Jimmy Jenkins 103-20 including a spectacular 80 break.
St Bedes cling on to top spot after a hard fought 5-4 win - they were indebted to opening duo Andy McKay 67-27 and Danny Plumpton 67-14, this result leaves them 5 points clear of Fords A with 3 games remaining.
Widnes Cons A cemented their grip on third spot with an impressive 7-2 win of their own – Opening combo of Callum Malloy 107-21 and Andrew Housley 97- 12 setting the tone.
WCC A recovered from last week’s mauling and won 7-2 – Danny Morris 68-14 and Dave Loseby 84-44 including a nice 32 break.
Runcorn Cons A kept alive their slim hopes of third after a 7-2 home win – Ian Lowe 69-47 and Eric Fairfield 76-41 including breaks of 28 and 25 (Eddie Corby chipped in with a 38 break in vain for Stadium A).
Fords B continue their resurgence after beating Farnworth A 6-3 – Tony Riccio 77-38 and Mick Carew 62-48.

Division Two
The second division now looks like a 3 horse race after Widnes Cons C’s capitulation continued this week, they fell 8-1 at the hands of Stadium B – Matty Clarke 61-31 and Dave Hankin 61-41 the pick of the bunch.
Millbrow B cling onto second spot on games won alone after a 7-2 victory – Danny Magee 76-31 and Wez Turton 60-38 on form.
Millbrow A sit level on points with their A team after a 7-2 of their own – Ashley Birch 59-47 and Rico Locke 59-31 including an impressive 31 break.
They are all chasing USC though as they demolished St Basils 8-1 – Paul Taylor 71-30 and Howard Jones 99-20 inflicting most damage.
Village B won the closest match of the week by a solitary point on aggregate – Their 5-4 came courtesy of Lol Ogburn’s 74-18 and Neil Webster 70-38.
WCC C also ran out 7-2 winners thanks to usual suspects Leon Hosking 89-10 and skipper Peter Foster 91-29 including breaks of 22 and 30.
The Birchfield derby went the way of the B team 6-3 – The win came courtesy of a power packed final frame display from Wayne ‘Wrecking Ball’ Hewitt 95-13.
Farnworth B piled more misery on Widnes Rec as they brushed them aside with ease 8-1 – Hughie Farrell 75-23 and Tony Hill 59-23 (John Hunt chipped in with a 33 break for The Rec).

Division Three
With Prescot Reform A having an open date Farnworth C had the chance to regain top spot, a chance they duly took with both hands – Jamie King 51-27 and Captain Paul Williams 50-24 including a sparkling 22 clearance.
Prescot Reform B upset high flying Corporation B 6-3 who now may have to settle for cup honours – Ste Evans 79-37 and Les Clare 53-35 ensuring the win.
Birchfield A edged out Village C 5-4 – Stalwart Paul Smith 77-38 and ‘Big’ Eddie Dixon 88-22.
Stadium C remain dark horses for honours after winning 6-3 against RWMC – again down to openers Kyle O’Neill 62-34 and Mark Ogburn 70-44.
WCC B won a hard fought 5-4 against Oddfellows – Norman Hunt 65-21 and Joe Parry 59-30 rolling back the years aka Steve Davies.
Stadium D upset Widnes Cons B 6-3 – Youthful displays from Liam Lund 48-40 and superstar to be Alex Millington 53-41.

Satellite Services Shield Semi Finals
Monday night saw the semi finals of the Satellite Shield as RAOB failed to concede a 60 point handicap start as HGSC A cruised into the final – Ged O’Brien 91-45 and Phil Slavin 67-27 ensured the victory.
In a much closer game Prescot reform A narrowly overcame Stadium D despite conceding a 160 point start – Colin Minshall 77-37 and Colin McCarthy 86-13 showing their class.

 

Week Thirty One

Snooker
Division One
With only four games to go this week brought a end of season challenge for the title after leaders St Bedes went down 7-2 to Fords B – Paul Dunn 111-25 and Jimmy Dunn 86-21 stepping up to the mark.
Widnes Cons A whitewashed WCC A 9-0 – Tony Cook 102-16 including a 36 break and Andrew Housley 105-22 including a 42 break taking valuable points.
HGSC B also won 9-0 this time at Runcorn Cons B – Aiden O’Connor 63-38 and Terry Cartwright 62-36 both superb.
Not to be outdone Overton also had an emphatic 9-0 victory against Simms Cross A – Merseyside billiards champion John Hughes 70-25 and Geoff Brassington 77-18 helping to crush the opposition.
Fords A tightened the gap at the top after beating RAOB 8-1 – Jimmy Jenkins 98-29 including breaks of 31 and 30 and Chris Whitfield 73-51 including a wonderful 57 break.
St Josephs A beat Farnworth A 7-2 – Brian Timmis 73-28 and skipper Gary Staniford 64-41 (John Davenport had a 39 break in vain for Farnworth).
Village A had a much needed 5-4 win over Stadium A - Ste Millington 81-12 and a strong 88-42 win for Andy Molyneux which included a 55 break.

Division Two
Millbrow A turned over Widnes Cons C 8-1 – Norman Locke 79-61, Rico Locke 66-52 and a welcome return to action for Norman Locke jnr 55-42.
Widnes Rec begin their surge up the table as they beat Birchfield C 7-2 – Alan McKenna 52-40 and Skipper Tommy Laughton 60-41 who took the last three colours to clinch final frame and the match.
St Josephs B beat Farnworth B 7-2 – Lee Goulden 67-25 and Geoff Carter 59-33 in good form (John Tollitt had a 31 break for Farnworth).
WCC C beat HGSC A 7-2 – Leon Hosking 95-18 including a superb 61 break and Peter Foster 43-37.
Corporation A seen off Village B 7-2 – top frames from Robbie Morris 103-32 and Kenny Cunningham 58-52.
Birchfield B beat St Basils 6-3 – John Hallsworth 70-31 and John Price 64-53.
Title favourites United Services Club beat Simms Cross B 6-3 – Massive frames from Brian Woodrow 72-49 and Howard Jones 55-31 ensured the victory.

Division Three
Prescot Reform A continue to shine at the top of the division after another 9-0 whitewash, this time against Oddfellows – Colin McCarthy 92-32 and Ray Baldwin 86-3 the stars of the show.
Corporation B continue their good season as they beat RWMC 7-2 – Brian Mercer 79-57 and Dave Hanley 62-39 with good wins.
Stadium D took a 6-3 win from WBC – Dave Gerrard 65-52 with a strong frame.
Farnworth C keep the pressure on at the top of the table as they beat WCC B 6-3 away from home – Vital wins from Tommy Carr 60-29 and Clive Rimmer 71-19 keeping them in the hunt.
Prescot Reform B won 5-4 against Village C – Ste Evans 69-48 and Les Clare 68-42 ensuring the points.
Birchfield A beat Farnworth D 6-3 – Opening duo Eddie Dixon 52-20 and Paul Smith 45-25 getting them off to a flyer (Tom Sheehy had a 29 break in his 77-48 frame for the Peelhouse Lane outfit).

Week Twenty Nine

Snooker
Division One
At the top of the division St Bedes overcome their recent slip ups and returned to winning ways as they thumped St Josephs A 8-1 – John Mercer 72-50 and John Hartshorn 60-47 guiding them to victory.
Widnes Cons A also had a good week as they beat Overton 7-2 – Tony Cook 89-29 including breaks of 39 and 20 and Andrew Housley 85-17 (Chris Achilles 63 break and Geoff Brassington 43 break for Overton).
RAOB continue their good form as they won 6-3 away to Simms Cross A – Sean Cosgrove 120-22 including breaks of 40 and 30 and Lee Thomas 68-14 in a hard fought match.
In their rearranged fixture Fords A were 5-4 winners against Fords B – Pete Corns 70-26 and Pat Horne 79-16 taking the spoils.
Runcorn Cons A went away to Village A and beat them 5-4 – Ian Atherton 58-57 and a final frame of 84-15 including a 31 break from Rob Farrington helping them to victory ( Ste Rawlinson 62 break for the Village).
Stobart Stadium A took a 6-3 victory away to Farnworth A – Openers Paul Rigby 89-41 and Ray Pierce 65-39 showing good form.

Division Two
Widnes Cons C beat Millbrow B 7-2 and launched themselves to the top of the table – Darren Attwood 77-30 and Colin Grindley 61-34 with good wins (Danny Magee had a seasons best 15 break).
Stobart Stadium B whitewashed Village B 9-0 – Matty Clarke 73-48 and Danny Naughton 84-24 including a superb 54 break.
United Services Club sit joint top of the division as they hammered HGSC A 8-1 – Paul Tudor 76-22, Dale Roberts 80-36 and Neil Whelan 70-35 taking the plaudits in a strong team performance.
Millbrow A won 7-2 – Rico Locke 50-31 and Ashley Birch 96-6 amongst their winners.
Farnworth B destroyed Corporation A 8-1 – Paul Coughlin 66-38 and John Pinder 75-27 in superb form for the peelhouse lane outfit.
Simms Cross B beat Birchfield B 7-2 – Ste Rowe 69-32 and a magnificent 102-27 frame win for Barry Hurley sealing the victory.
St Basils beat struggling Widnes Rec 6-3 – Paul Brady 100-35 and Mark Hartley 53-45 doing just enough.

Division Three
This week again saw Runcorn Cons C failing to fulfil their fixture in so doing handing a 9-0 victory to Corporation B after Liam Riccio beat their only player 58-38.
Stobart Stadium C had an easy 8-1 win over WBC – Dave Jones 54-44 and Mark Ogburn 72-34.
Village C convincingly beat RWMC 7-2 – Final pairing of Lee Case 71-34 and Liam Riley 82-12 including a 35 break sealing the victory.
Prescot Reform B beat Farnworth D 7-2 – Jim Furbanks 63-49 and Ste Evans 57-30 on form for the Reform whilst Derek ‘You Rang’ Peach chalked up a massive 39-36 victory to start his winning run.
In the division’s top match Farnworth C beat table topping Prescot Reform A 6-3 – Jamie King 56-50 and Clive Rimmer 79-22 both with big wins.
Birchfield A were 6-3 victors over WCC B – Ian Sharples 52-41 and Stalwart Geoff Illidge 85-25 proving too much.
Oddfellows are starting to show their true form as they beat a strong Widnes Cons B 5-4 – Openers Paul Whitley 83-27 and Michelle Hodson 66-34 leading from the front.
