Week Fifteen
Billiards
USC A continued their good run of form accounting for Simms Cross A 5-2 – Peter Whittle 100-45 and George ‘The Italian Stallion’ Riccio 100-65 were in fine form but the undoubted star of the show was Phil Henderson’s hero Richard Whittle who won his frame 100-0 including a league best 73 break.
Fords remain in contention as they came home 4.5-2.5 winners against Farnworth B – Chris Achilles 100-32, John Childes 100-37 and Nigel White 100-41 got them off to the best start.
WCC and Farnworth A both came home 4-3 winners against con club teams.
Snooker
Division One
With St Bedes slipping up 6-3 at WCC the door was left open for the chasing pack – Fords A earned a rousing 8-1 win thanks to gutsy performances from Lee Cannon 80-31 and Phil Horne 77-58.
An under strength Widnes Cons A couldn’t take advantage of St Bedes slip as they were humbled 8-1 at Irish Club – Declan Cassidy 81-34 and anchorman / stand in skipper Mike Chester 93-23 including a nice 31 break.
Cue sport player of the week Richie Whittle notched a 64 break in vain as his team Village A were sent packing by RAOB – Syd Payne 74-36 and Frank Pennington 106-14 including breaks of 28 and 27 proving there’s life in the old dogs yet.
Farnworth A edged past Overton 5-4 – Anchormen Andy Stacey 70-29 and Chris Smart 95-16 both with resounding wins (Captain fantastic for Overton Geoff Brassington won 123-1 including breaks of 69 and a 41 clearance).
Runcorn Cons A overcame relegation candidates Fords B 6-3 – Chris Ellams 56-27 and Eric Fairfield 57-26 with vital wins.
Stobart Stadium A ‘Carol Singers’ won 6-3 – Paul ‘Santa’ Goulden 61-35 and Eddie ‘Rudolph’ Corby 74-25 (Unfortunately choir leader Ray ‘Jungle Balls’ Pierce couldn’t rise to the occasion).
Division Two
The second division is fast becoming a two horse race between Millbrow B and Widnes Cons C – The former whitewashed Widnes Rec 9-0 – Carl Woods 67-16 and Danny Woolley 76-25 taking prized scalps.
Whilst the latter cruised home 8-1 thanks to John Rowan 69-23 and Phil ‘Town Prospect’ Henderson 93-15.
HGSC A coasted home 7-2 – Andy Ryan 50-35, A.Cunnliffe 70-46 and Phil Slavin 70-27.
Title chasing Birchfield B impressed 8-1 at Village B – Chris Rathbone 47-32 and John Price 77-27 providing the impetus.
Birchfield C were also convincing winners, this time 7-2 largely in part to opening duo Paul Condron 81-48 including a 31 break and Antony Clarke 91-12 including two 20 plus breaks.
Farnworth B upset USC 6-3 – Ste Smith 63-46 and Jamal Khojani 59-21.
Millbrow A also 6-3 winners thanks to experienced duo of Norman Locke 71-37 and Tony O’Neil 61-47 including a 39 break.
Division Three
Tony ‘Gary Glitter’ Rawlinson and his gang of kids overcame Paul ‘Pied Piper’ Williams and his team of dirty rats finishing Corporation B 7 Farnworth C 2 – Youngster Tom Cafferty 64-21 including a 22 break and the ‘Glam Rocker’ himself Tony Rawlinson 86-18 who welcomed his victim to his special place.
Village C continue their winning form brushing aside Oddfellows 7-2 – Ste Allen 68-16 including a 25 clearance and Liam Riley 86-47 including a 26 break.
Prescot Reform A now sit joint top after a last gasp 7-2 victory against Widnes Cons B – Opening duo Ray Baldwin 78-30 and Carl Minshall 88-25 including a 32 break.
Stadium D also 7-2 winners – Alex Millington 79-50 and Linda Lund 78-27.
WBC continue to impress beating a powerful RWMC 7-2 – Tony Purcell 62-30 and ‘Sex Machine’ James Brown 68-28 with a penetrating performance.
Birchfield A won 5-4 Paul ‘Smigger’ Smith 72-29 and Geoff ‘Frigger’ Illidge 65-55 leading the way for the Birchy Boys.
Prescot Reform B edged past Runcorn Cons C 6-3 – Skipper Ste Evans 52-29 and the real Paul Williams 66-47.

Week Fourteen
Division One
St Bedes managed to hang on to top spot after a hard fought 5-4 home win against Overton – Opening duo John Mercer 71-21 and Danny Plumpton 66-52.
Widnes Cons A leapt into second place after winning 7-2 on the final black of the match for the third week in a row – Tony Cook 131-9 including an awesome 71 break and Mark Smith 70-34 including a match winning 22 clearance.
WCC A overcome high flying Fords A 6-3 – The young and the restless partnership of Jack Webb 62-38 and Graham Knight 64-49 (Jimmy Jenkins had a 50 break in vain for Fords).
Stadium A impressed 5-4 against the Irish Club – Eddie Corby 77-40 and Brian Hough 67-33 doing the damage last on.
Simms Cross A came home comfortable 7-2 winners thanks once again to Jason ‘Harold’ Kilshaw 78-17 and Kenny ‘Albert’ Kilshaw 71-27.
Fords B had a much needed 5-4 victory – Paul Dunn 68-34 and Ken Metcalfe 46-21 starred.
Farnworth A put RAOB to the sword 8-1 – Ste Ainsworth 82-29 and Chris Smart 112-12 doing the business.
Division Two
St Basils routed WCC C 8-1 – Denis Simcock 68-45, Barry Lane 68-46 and M. Ellis 90-38.
Millbrow B remain the team to catch as they pinched a 5-4 away win – Big hitter Danny Wooley68-26 including a 30 break ensured the spoils went the way of the ‘Brow’.
Widnes Rec lie in wait for Millbrow B next week and go there in great form as they won 8-1 – Alan Fox 70-54 and Paul Antrobus 86-38 helped contribute in a good all round team performance.
Birchfield B continue to climb the table as they drilled struggling Farnworth B 8-1 – Starmen were John Price 66-33 and Joey Mark 75-41.
Widnes Cons C remain hot on the heels of the leaders after am impressive 8-1 win – Darren Attwood 60-55 and Phil Henderson 70-23.
USC won 6-3 – Andy Cotterill 55-27 and Neil Whelan 56-44.
Corporation A matched that scoreline thanks to Jay Sharp 58-37 and Andy Freeman 85-14.
Millbrow A also remain in contention after a 6-3 of their own – Ashley Birch 66-35 and Norman Locke jnr 48-44 with good wins.
Division Three
Prescot Reform A continue their charge with a thumping 8-1 win – Carl Minshall 80-24 and Colin Minshall 91-29.
Corporation B continue their Jekyl l / Hyde season with a narrow 7-2 win – Tom Cafferty 70-29 and L.Rawlinson 53-37 with good wins.
Farnworth D got back to winning ways by beating Oddfellows 6-3 – Martin Sheehy 80-30 and Dean King 71-15 stars on the night.
Farnworth C also won 6-3 – Tommy ‘Gun’ Carr 62-37 including a 22 break and Paul ‘Poppa’ Williams 58-18 both in good form.
Runcorn Cons C continue their winning ways with a 5-4 – Jay Cumper 58-54 and Dean Bentley 86-24 including a 30 break (good performances in vain for RWMC – M.Crisp 27 clearance and Dave Ellison 122-16).
WBC also 5-4 winners – Ste Leadbetter 64-47 the highlight.
Billiards Team Knockout (Quarter Finals)
Defending champs WBC were sent crashing out by Simms Cross A – Stars of the show Mike Anderson 100-9 including a superb 52 unfinished break and Ernie Burns 100-44 with a decisive final frame victory.
Fords edged out Widnes Cons A by 16 points – Unsung heroes Pat Burns 100-93 and Nigel White 100-72.
Farnworth A won the tie of the round by a solitary point after conceding a 210 start – Tony Bibby 100-46 and Paul Cleary 100-18 impressing.
WCC also made the semi finals after overcoming Simms Cross B
Week Thirteen
Billiards
Widnes Cons A brushed aside ‘Whipping Boys’ Farnworth B 6-1 – Mark Smith 100-15 and Ged ‘Yes M’Lady’ Connor 100-49 including a 45 unfinished break with a thunderbird performance.
Fords remain hot on the heels of the leaders with a 6-1 of their own – Starmen once again were Chris Achilles 100-35 and Tommy Barton 100-26 including an excellent 48 break.
WBC still have a firm stranglehold at the top after a 5-2 win – unsung heroes were Peter Myler 100-49 and Matty ‘Latoya’ Jackson 100-38.
WCC edged past Farnworth A 4-3 – Jack Webb 100-55 and Billy ‘The carrot cruncher’ Webster 100-68.
Snooker
Division One
Farnworth A consigned Fords B to another heavy 8-1 defeat – John ‘Apes gone wild’ Chamberlain 93-31 and Chris ‘Red, Red Wine’ Smart 78-54 including a great 46 break.
Widnes Cons A remain in contention thanks to a last gasp 7-2 away win – Tony ‘Get outta my swamp’ Cook 74-47 and Callum ‘Its all about you’ Malloy 106-20 including a superb 57 break.
The closest match of the week went the way of Simms Cross A as they won 6-3 with the aggregate being decided on a respot black – Middle duo Jason ‘Mr dial the duster’ Kilshaw 84-46 and Mike ‘Mrs Nora’ Batty81-18.
Stadium A put former leaders Runcorn Cons A firmly in their place after thumping them 8-1 – Ray ‘Prince Albert Knob’ Pierce 84-31 and Eddie Corby 88-9 putting the Farrington boys to the sword.
Defending champs St Josephs A edged past a powerful Village A team 5-4 – Billy ‘The Godfather’ Smith 56-43 and A sweet performance from Ian ‘Tate and’ Lisle 108-17 (Village A anchormen Andy Molyneux had a 51 break and Ste Millington had a 50 break which restricted the damage).
In a much closer game than the scoreline suggests Fords A overcame Overton 8-1 – Opening duo and Brothers in arms Pat ‘Me so’ Horne ‘ Me love you long time’ 60-45 and Phil ‘Me sucky, sucky for 15 dollars’ Horne 62-44 ensured the win.
The most overrated foreign team ever to play in the Widnes League - Irish Club somehow managed a 5-4 win – Mike ‘Mussolini’ Chester 79-45 including a break of 49 and Dave ‘Napoleon’ Newton 63-21 said they were up for the challenge.
The shock of the week came as runaway leaders St Bedes crumbled 7-2 at RAOB – Lee ‘Wiggy’ Thomas 94-42 and Frank Pennington ‘Flash’ 100-12 were spectacular. (John Hartshorn won the frame of the night thanks to breaks of 43 and 22 clearance.
Division Two
Struggling Farnworth B overcame Widnes Rec 7-2 – Ste Smith 86-63 and John Pinder 73-29 led the way.
Millbrow B continue to dominate as they hammered Corporation A 8-1 – Matty Welding 75-19 and ‘Chip and’ Dale Picton 55-31.
Even Millbrow A are in on the act vying for contention as they won 6-3 – Norman Locke Snr 74-43 and ‘Nomad’ Mark Peach 45-44 with big scalps.
Birchfield B won a hard fought ‘Derby’ against their ‘C’ team 6-3 – Kev Johnson 79-24 and John Hallsworth (who will be celebrating his 2010th birthday shortly) 72-38 overcoming the Condron boys.
Simms Cross B shocked high flying WCC C 7-2 – Barry ‘On the buses’ Wainwright 82-21 and Dave ‘The Bare Necessities’ Evans 83-34 were this weeks hotdogs.
Village B squeezed a 5-4 win – Anchormen Ste Brolly 64-25 and Adam ‘Darth’ Thompson 84-21 including a 35 break continued his form after returning to the dark side.
Stadium B handed Widnes Cons C yet another beating thanks to impressive frames from – Matty ‘Jeremy’ Clark ‘Son’ 78-27 and Danny Naughton 120-22 who handed out a harsh lesson to a hard opponent.
St Basils edged out their match 6-3 by a solitary point – Denis Simcock 63-42 and Barry Lane 62-43 ensured the victory.
Division Three
WCC B continue to shine cruising home 7-2 – Geoff Soul 59-50 and Joe Parry 56-25 impressing most.
Village C were superb in their 8-1 victory – Lee Case 90-11 including a 27 clearance and Paul Skitt 76-21 stars on the night.
Stadium D won a hard fought 5-4 match thanks to John ‘Sconny’ Murphy 40-36 and L.Lund 64-17.
Stadium C also won 5-4 – Mark Ogburn 57-42 and Kyle O’Neil 55-50 pinching wins (Andy Relph was superb for RWMC chipping in with a 39 break).
WBC also 5-4 winners – Mike Hughes 80-24 and Roy Syze 68-25 once again starring.
Prescot Reform B earned a much needed 7-2 win – Anchormen Ian Furbank 53-36 and Skipper Ste Evans 96-33 including a 24 break.
Farnworth C beat Farnworth D 7-2 in their ‘Derby’ Opening duo Jamie ‘Watch Your Car’ King 68-31 and Tommy ‘Wannabe King’ Carr 57-19 (Jedwood starred for Farnworth D).
