Snooker Team Knockout
The quarter finals of the Snooker Team Knockout saw Stobart Stadium C romp into the next round after beating Village C – Tom Goulden 82-43 including a 26 break and a superb 116-1 frame from Mark Ogburn which included breaks of 36 and 39.
HGSC B managed to beat WBC by a mere 23 points after taking the last two frames – Barry Connor 74-51 and Gaz Rowlands 79-22.
Birchfield C thumped a below par Simms Cross B – Openers John Shaw 74-16 and Paul Condron 77-34 including a 27 clearance.
Corporation B went into the semis after beating Farnworth D by 60 points – Scott Myler 76-32 and Liam ‘The Slayer’ Riccio 62-28.

Digital Satellite Services Shield
The clash of the titans saw the Irish Club take out Village A – Declan Cassidy 62-44 and Dave Newton 67-16 ( Ste Rawlinson had a 65 break in vain for the Villagers).
Stadium D beat Prescot Reform B – A. Millington 82-18 and J. Hughes 56-40.
St Basils keep their season alive after a great win over USC – Final frame heroics from Dennis Simcock 97-11 including a 58 break the highlight of the match.
Farnworth B put out Fords B – Hughie Farrell 47-40 and John Pinder 46-38 helping them to victory.
Runcorn Cons C made it a bad night all round for Fords as they knocked out Fords A – Final duo Dean Bentley 82-30 and J. Cumpper 53-44.
HGSC A saw off Widnes Rec – Alan Dunn 71-28 and Phi ‘The Power’ Slavin 100-23 including a 40 break with big wins.
RAOB knocked out Farnworth A – John Ratcliffe 106-23 and Frank Pennington 104-23 proving too strong.

Billiards
WCC mounted a final challenge for the title as they beat USC A 6-1 – Leon Hosking 100-39 and Billy Webster 100-65.
Farnworth A beat Simms Cross A 5-2 – Kenny Boscoe 100-54 and Mick Anderson 100-73 both on form.
Widnes Cons B had a 4-3 victory over Fords – Dave Whittle 100-61 and Eddie Herald 100-81.
Farnworth B were also 4-3 winners – Robbie Morris 100-95 and Norman Beesley 100-79.

In the rearranged league game Fords B beat Stobart Stadium A 6-3 – Ken Metcalfe 59-21 and Jimmy Dunn 82-31.

 

Week Twenty Three

Billiards
The Conservative club ‘Derby’ went the way of the A team – Anchormen John ‘Howling Mad Murdoch’ Tighe 100-72 and Jimmy ‘Hannibal’ Gallagher 100-74 ensured the spoils.
WBC continue to steamroll the league as they ran out 5-2 winners at Fords – Callum ‘She Loves You, Yeah Yeah Yeah’ Malloy 100-49 and Willie ‘Japs Eye’ Barnwell 100-45 doing the business.
SimmsX'B got the better of Farnworth'A by the same 5-2 scoreline – Anchormen once again were Brian ‘Everything I Do, I Do It For You’ Adams ‘on’ 100-91 and Jimmy ‘Coni’ Furbanks 100-49 making the most of the leaves.
USC'A are hot on the heels of Widnes Cons'A after winning 4.5-2.5 at Farnworth'B – Brothers in arms Richard 100-28 and Peter 100-55 whittled them down.

Runcorn Cons'C continue to bely their lowly league position after another hard fought 6-3 away win – Jay ‘Swallows’ Cumpper 69-40 and third division sensation Dean ‘Convertible’ Bentley 75-39 including a division best 55 break.
Corporation'B whitewashed WCC B 9-0 – Rob ‘Do Bears Shit In The’ Woods 64-32, Scott Myler ‘Cyrus’69-47 and the superstar that is Liam ‘The Grinder’ Riccio 49-45.
Farnworth'C return to top spot after an impressive 6-3 away win at WBC – Playing the sailors this week were: Mike ‘Like A Young Bill Werbeniuk’ McKay 62-35 and surprise, surprise Paul ‘Like An Old Nigel Bond’ Williams 68-21.
Stadium'C gained a 6-3 away win at Prescot Reform'A – John ‘Razors’ Edge 65-55 and ‘Honest’ Jordan Clayton 44-40 impressed in more ways than one.

Fords'A could only manage a 5-4 win this week – Opening duo Ste O’Hare ‘Of The Dog’ 61-50 and Jimmy ‘Whirlwind’ Jenkins 96-8.
Widnes Cons A got the better of their Runcorn counterparts 6-3 – Paul ‘Co-Op’ Summerfield 50-33 and Callum ‘Yesterday, All My Troubles Seemed So Far Away’ Malloy 81-28 including a 30 break.

Week Twenty Two

Missing sheets: Stobart Stadium D and Millbrow B

Billiards Team Knockout Semi Finals
The first team final of the season is upon us after this weeks semi’s – In a hard fought match Simms Cross A took the spoils in a scratch match with Farnworth A by a margin of 50 – Kev Marsh 100-72 and skipper Ernie Burns 100-79 which included a 30 break.
Simms Cross A will now face Fords in the final as they comprehensively brushed aside WCC – Star players for the motormen were Chris Achilles 100-24 and Peter Corns 100-26 the two winning teams now face off on Monday March 15th at Widnes Conservative Club.

Snooker
Division One

All of the teams fighting for survival at the bottom of the table impressed this week, firstly Fords B edged out Oveton5-4 –Ernie Griffiths starred with a 74-23 frame (great performances from the losing side – Geoff Brassington 101-18 and John Hughes 114-15 including a marvellous 86 break).
Stadium A bettered that win as they came home 7-2 against fellow strugglers Runcorn Cons B – Baz Yates 66-26 and Brian Hough 56-32 in inspired form.
HGSC B upset high flying Runcorn Cons A 6-3 – Skipper Paul Fenlon   57-50 and Aidy O’Connor 72-36 winning the battle of the under 21 champs.
RAOB continue their resurgence with another impressive 6-3 win – Lee Thomas 80-26 including a 34 clearence and Frank Pennington 70-43 including a 38 break halted the Irish Club’s run.
Simms Cross A matched that scoreline coming home 6-3 – Middle duo Kev Marsh 65-33 and Jimmy Finn 67-26.
WCC A continue to pile the misery on defending champions St Josephs A as they ran out 6-3 winners – Dave Loseby 55-23 and Danny Morris 60-44 the pick of the bunch.
The top of the table clash between Fords A and St Bedes went the way of the Bedes, they were indebted to anchormen John Hartshorn 80-22 and Brian Kennedy 86-40.
Widnes Cons A got one over on the old enemy Village A 7-2 – Mark Smith 79-22 and Callum Malloy 65-38 including a sparkling 56 clearence. (Ste Rawlinson had a 37 clearence in vain for the Villagers).
 
Division Two
Village B faired much better than their A team as they won 7-2 – League stalwart Lol Ogburn 84-23 and Adam Thomson 86-32 including a 31 break ensured the victory.
The most impressive win of the week came from United Services Club as they whitewashed St Josephs B 9-0 – Paul Taylor 68-35 including a 30 break, Paul Tudor 72-17 and Dale Roberts 88-1 including a 38 break.
Corporation A also impressed with an 8-1 win – Rob Morris 77-19 and Kenny Cunningham 81-32 the stars of the show.
St Basils won 7-2 – Anchormen Mike Hartley 63-28 and Terry Welsh 57-38 bringing them home.
Millbrow A remain in contention as they won 6-3 – Ashley Birch 66-25 and Rico Locke 57-10.
Widnes Cons C retain second spot after their 6-3 win – Col Grindley 78-20 and Daz Attwood 63-46 impressed.
Birchfield B accounted for Widnes Rec 5-4 – John Hallsworth 78-18.

Division Three
Oddfellows returned to old form by crushing Prescot Reform B 8-1 – Paul Whitley 52-28, Frank Christopher 68-35 and Les Banks 65-27.
Birchfield A upset high flying Farnworth C 7-2 – Cliff Dicks 67-17 and Paul Smith 62-50 with a pack busting display.
Stobart Stadium C were also 7-2 winners – Dave Jones 68-49 and star of the show John Edge 85-16 with breaks of 25 and 20.
WCC B edged out Village C 5-4 – Dave Robinson 52-38 and a sensational 108-15 frame from Geoff Soul.
Corporation B shot down Prescot reform A 5-4 – Scott Myler 83-28 and Dave Hanley 46-46 won on a respot black.
Widnes Bowling Club beat Farnworth Knights 9-0 – Ste Leadbetter 69-30, Carl Davenport 71-38 and James Brown 67-21.

WCC went away to Widnes Cons B and triumphed in a one sided 6-1 victory – Billy Webster 100-33 and Rob Taylor 100-37 in fine form.
Simms Cross A beat Fords 5.5-1.5 – Eric Baker 100-67 and Kenny Boscoe 100-48 both with good wins.
USC A won 5-2 at home to Simms Cross B – Top frames from Andrew Housley 100-15, Richard Whittle 100-49 including a 31 unfinished break and Danny Magee 100-47 including a 27 break ensured the victory.
WBC beat Widnes Cons A 4-3 – Callum Malloy 100-19 and Matty Jackson 100-52 were again on form.

Division One
Fords A won 7-2 away to The Irish Club – Chris Whitfield 74-48 including a 32 break and a superb 127-2 winning frame including breaks of 25,38 and 56 from Pat Horne made it easy for the Motormen.
Table topping St Bedes had a 7-2 home win over Simms Cross A – Opener Andy McKay 57-55 and John Hartshorn 55-20 doing just enough.
The best win of the week went to Overton Memorial Hall as they trounced St Josephs A 9-0 – Usual suspects Geoff Brassington 83-33 and Chris Achilles 87-16 doing most of the damage.
Village A beat HGSC B 5-4 – Andy Molyneux 87-20 and Richard Whittle 82-16 amongst the winners in a one sided match.
RAOB beat Fords B away from home 6-3 in a black ball decided match – openers John Ratcliffe 92-16 and Stu Cosgrove setting the standard for the Buffs.
WCC A thumped Stobart Stadium A 8-1 – Rob Taylor 77-32 and Danny Morris 85-23 including a 42 break.
Challengers Farnworth A Beat Widnes Cons A 5-4 – Dave Boswell 58-23 and Chris Smart 82-28 with winning frames.

Widnes Cons C keep up their challenge in division two as they beat Widnes Rec 8-1 – John Rowan 90-39 and Phil Henderson 80-32.
HGSC A also won 8-1 against Village - B Andy Ryan 87-18 including a 31 break and Phil Slavin 58-45 just managing to ensure the handicap.
Birchfield B beat St Josephs B 7-2 – Wayne Hewitt 59-45 and Joe Mark 66-44 amongst the winners.

Farnworth B earned a much needed win against Simms Cross B – Paul Worth 71-37 and John Pinder 77-75 earning the victory.

WCC B eased past Farnworth D 7-2 – Final pairing of Geoff Soul 62-28 and Joe Parry 59-33 putting the game beyond doubt.
