Week Twenty One- w/c 23/01/12

Billiards
Farnworth B had a superb 6-1 away win against Fords – Hughie Farrell 130-89 and John Pinder 130-107 both in great form.
Leaders WBC also had a 6-1 away win, this time at WCC – Colin Attwood 130-112 and a magnificent 130-45 frame from Willie Barnwell putting it beyond any doubt.
Farnworth A had a great 5-2 victory over USC – Tony Bibby 130-7 including a 54 break and Terry Bourke 130-67 getting them off to a flyer.
In the Widnes Con Club ‘Derby Match’ the ‘B’ team claimed bragging rights over the ‘A’ team beating them 4-3 – Leo Milne 130-91 and Dave Thomas 130-102 (Tommy Galloway nearly won in his frame).
Simms Cross B also won 4-3 away to Village – Ged Connor 130-82 and Jim Furbank 130-55 win strong victories (Ste Rawlinson had breaks of 55 and 31 in his winning frame for the Village).

Snooker
Division One
Simms Cross A had a superb 8-1 win over Farnworth A to keep them among the challengers – Shaun Cosgrove 91-23 including a 31 break and Lee Thomas 71-45 including a 29 break.
USC A beat St Josephs A 7-2 – Dale Roberts stealing the show 100-15 including breaks of 38 and 29 closely followed by Andy Freeman 92-22 including his own 26 break.
Stadium A were 6-3 winners at St Bedes A – Baz Yates 78-44 and Eddie Corby 77-9 the pick of the bunch.
Woolton Cons narrowly beat Millbrow A 5-4 – Andy Molyneux 82-32 and a blistering 113-29 frame from star man Daz Rogers.
Village Galacticos also 5-4 winners at home to Fords A – Ste Millington 77-52 and Ste Rawlinson 75-34 sharing the spoils.
Widnes Cons A beat HGSC B 5-4 – Paul Summerfield 74-39 and Mark Smith 73-26 both on top form.
League favourites Overton MH narrowly beat RAOB 5-4 – A superb frame from John Hughes 107-25 coupled with Chris Achilles 101-26 including a fantastic 79 break the highlights of the match.

Division Two
Runcorn Con Artists took a 7-2 victory at home to USC B – Opener Dave Bratchell 81-23 and Jay Cumpper 93-47 on fire.
Top team Millbrow B also 7-2 winners against Simms Cross B – Final Pairing of Danny Magee 95-26 and Dale Picton 121-14 including a 58 break put paid to any chance of a close finish ( Wez ‘Why always me’ Turton was gracious in defeat).
St Josephs B continue to shine after a 6-3 home win against St Bedes B – Chuckle Brothers Geoff Carter 45-29 and Ste Carter 84-17 the difference between the teams.
Village Wildebeests were 6-3 winners away to Fords B – Solid frames from Lol Ogburn 70-34 and Adam Thompson 59-14 earning the victory.
Stadium B beat Runcorn Cons A 6-3 – Matty Clarke 70-31 and Danny Naughton 58-49.
WCC C earned a 5-4 win from Birchfield B – Tony McDonnell 68-50 and a superb 114-22 frame from Leon Hosking proving too much on the night.

Division Three
In the Farnworth ‘Derby’ the Donkeys kicked the Knights butts as Farnworth C were 8-1 winners over Farnworth D – Clive Rimmer 80-52 and Paul Williams 68-19 in a one sided match.
RWMC also 8-1 winners, this time over Prescot Reform B – Dave Ellison 90-22 and Andy Relph 66-29 sharing the M.O.M.
Birchfield A were 6-3 winners against Widnes Cons B – Final duo Paul Smith 58-53 and Cliff Dicks 64-39 making sure.
WBC beat Prescot Reform A 6-3 – Jack Twigg 55-38 and John Tighe 55-49.

 

Week Twenty - w/c 16/01/12

Billiards
Widnes Cons A hit the big time this week as they whitewashed Village A 7-0 – Excellent frames from Mark Smith 130-24 and Tony Grant 130-33 ensured the victory.
USC move within a point of the leaders after a superb 6-1 win over Fords – Andrew Housley 130-104 and man of the match Danny Magee 130-55 in a great team performance.
Simms Cross B also won 6-1 against WCC – Final pairing of Paul Bradburne 130-90 and Jim Furbank 130-82 making sure of the win.
Leaders Simms Cross A had a 5-2 victory away to Farnworth B – Kev marsh 130-113 and Mick Anderson 130-74 with solid frames.
WBC managed a 4-3 win over Farnworth A – John Tighe 130-51 and Ian Lowe 130-67 enough to seal the win.

Snooker
Division One
The Village Galacticos hold pride of place this week after a 9-0 whitewashing of HGSC B – Superb frames from Mark King 94-16 and Ste Millington 83-15 proving too good for their opponents.
Farnworth A hit form as they beat Woolton Cons 7-2 – Andy Stacey 49-34 and Mark Peach 72-30 taking the plaudits.
RAOB were 6-3 winners against USC A – Syd Payne 83-37 and Frank Pennington 94-25 sharing the man of the match award.
WCC A also 6-3 winners at home to Simms Cross A – Gary Carman 45-39 and Dave Loseby 61-54 enough on the night.
St Bedes continue their recent spell of form as they beat league leaders Overton 5-4 – John Hartshorn 53-48 and a superb frame from Ste O’Connor 95-29 including breaks of 41 and 38.
Widnes Cons A managed to win 5-4 away to St Josephs A – Andrew Housley 78-32 and Mark Smith 67-51 proving the difference.

Division Two
Stadium B take centre stage after beating Farnworth B 8-1 – John Barry 81-23 and Danny Naughton 68-61 earning the credits.
Birchfield B beat Fords B 7-2 at home – John Jones 83-32 and Roy Randles 76-38 impressive.
HGSC A also 7-2 winners away to Village Wildebeests – Andy Ryan 96-31 including a 35 break and Alan Dunn 81-22 including a 34 break too much for the Villagers.
Millbrow B beat Runcorn Cons A 6-3 – Scott Price 102-39 and Danny Magee 76-21 on fire for the league leaders.
St Bedes B were 6-3 winners at home to Runcorn Con Artists – John Hallsworth 69-43 and Kev Johnson 56-54 doing the damage.

Division Three
RWMC thumped Holy Family 8-1 this week – Shaun Mullane 76-26 and Martin Crisp 71-21 in the final two frames.
Widnes Cons B also had an 8-1 win over WBC – Tony Grant 87-16 and Bernie Edwards 80-29 proving too strong.
Prescot Reform A beat HRBL A 7-2 – Carl Minshall 71-39 and Ray Baldwin 71-34.
Prescot Reform B were 6-3 winners at home to Birchfield A – Jim Furbank 75-37 and Les Clare including a 22 clearance 64-34 with good wins.
WCC B had a superb 5-4 victory over Corporation – Dave Robinson 75-21 and Norman Hunt 52-22.

 

Week Nineteen - w/c 09/01/12

Billiards
Widnes Cricket Club beat Widnes Con Club A 6-1 this week – Superb frames from Graham Knight 130-83 and Billy Webster 130-105 eased them to victory (Mark Smith had an excellent 57 break for the Con Club)
Farnworth A also won 6-1 at home to Simms Cross B – Paul Cleary 130-68 and Alan Bibby 130-93 the standout performers.
Simms Cross A beat Fords 5-2 – Lee Thomas 130-91 and Stu Cosgrove 130-43 both in fine form.
High flying WBC were shot down 5-2 by USC – Thanks to match winning frames from Howard Jones 130-90 and Richie Whittle 130-96.
Widnes Cons B took a 4-3 win off Farnworth B in the closest match of the week – Dave Thomas 130-111 and Leo Milne 130-85 to pinch the handicap by two points.

Snooker
Division One
Star Studded favourites for the title Overton MH put their cup woes behind them and trounced USC A 8-1 on Thursday night – Chris Achilles 63-34 including a solid 56 break and John Hughes 116-24 proving too much for the Services.
Stobart Stadium A also won 8-1 against Farnworth A – Eddie Corby 88-67 and Brian Hough 61-48 taking the final two frames.
St Bedes A pulled out their season’s best performance and beat Millbrow A 8-1 – Aidy O’Connor opened with a 71-40 and Captain Marvel Johnny Holland came out of retirement to pick the Locke 60-38.
Simms Cross A took down Fords A 7-2 – Mark Bingham 83-23 and Mike Batty 67-37 taking the plaudits (Jimmy Jenkins had breaks of 51 and a 39 clearance in his 120-6 frame for Fords)
RAOB were 7-2 winners over Widnes Cons A – Mark Dutton 70-56 and Brian Dutton 56-25 sharing the spoils.
Woolton Cons beat WCC A 5-4 – Opening duo of Chris Hazelhurst 81-23 and Andy Molyneux 94-27 getting them off to the best of starts.
Village Galacticos were 5-4 winners at home to St Josephs A – Superb frames from Ste Rawlinson 92-50 including a 50 break and Matty Jackson 97-36.

Division Two
St Josephs B had a marvellous 8-1 victory over Village Wildebeests – Karl Szczotok 76-34 and Geoff Carter 74-27 at either end of the proceedings.
Fords B also notched an 8-1 win this time over Simms Cross B – Mick Carew 64-46 including a 32 break and Ken Metcalfe 72-29.
USC B storm into second spot after their 7-2 win away to Farnworth B – Alan Fox 59-49 and Tommy Laughton 85-22 in a good all round team performance.
HGSC A were 7-2 winners at home to Birchfield B – Andy Ryan 90-39 and Stu Ireland 66-36 (Alan Dunn knocked in a seasons best 61 break for HGSC).
Stadium B  continue to shine as they beat Millbrow B 6-3.
Runcorn Cons A were 5-4 winners away to WCC A – Keith Bolton 85-16 and Ian Lowe 58-53 in the final two frames.

Division Three
Prescot Reform A thumped Widnes Cons B 8-1 – Ray Baldwin 67-29 and Colin McCarthy 56-28.
Prescot Reform B won 6-3 against WBC – Jim Furbank 65-30 and Keith Wilson 52-21 in a strong team performance.
Corporation were 6-3 winners over Village C this week in a match played in true sporting spirit in respect of Shaun Parry – Rob Morris 97-32 Brian Mercer 77-21 and Tom Cafferty 61-26.
HRBL A beat WCC B 6-3 – New signing A. Ormson 107-17 including a superb 51 break and other new signing  A. Taylor 75-48.
Birchfield A were 6-3 winners at home to Holy Family – Dave Illidge 70-57 and Cliff Dicks 47-21 taking the plaudits.
RWMC beat Farnworth Knights 5-4 – Lee Gascoigne 68-33 and Dave Ellison 61-32.

 

Week Eighteen - w/c 04/01/12

Snooker Team Knockout
In the last eight of this season’s Team Knockout Widnes Bowling Club sent Stobart Stadium B packing after annihilating them 509-273 – James Brown 65-20, Darren Fox 53-49 and Tony Purcell 72-23 in a one sided match.
Millbrow A went through after a solid 363-274 win over USC A – Ashley Birch 75-39 and man of the match Rico Locke 78-20 too strong for their opponents.
WCC A beat Woolton Cons 451-389 – mainly thanks to Dave Loseby who took the final frame 33-25.
HRBL A sent Overton out after a comprehensive 569-464 thrashing – M Loughran 82-54 and B. Connolly 93-33 including a 47 break to cast aspersions on the handicap.
In a much closer match Widnes Cons B beat Simms Cross B 344-338 – Tony Grant 67-26 and Bernie Edwards 75-44 taking the plaudits.
Birchfield A continue into the next round after beating Village Wildebeests 412-283 – Geoff Illidge 75-40 and Ian Sharples 56-33 with a captains knock.

Stobart Stadium C were 310-274 winners at home to Prescot Reform B – K. Oneill 62-43 and L.Lund 64-41 enough to see them through.
HGSC A make it into the next round after thumping RAOB 419-313 – A.Cunliffe 94-42 and A.Dunn 68-46 in fine form.
Prescot Reform A took out HGSC B 352-288 – Superb frames from P.Daly 83-25 and Colin McCarthy 78-42 making the difference.
Corporation beat St Josephs B 377-345 – Opening duo of Rob Morris 63-33 and Tont Rawlinson 70-57 paving the way for an excellent performance.
Farnworth A beat a strong Fords A side 444-419 – Big wins from Chris Smart 59-41 and Andy Stacey 59-50 proving the difference on the night.
Millbrow B beat Farnworth C 359-311 – Scott Price 64-27 and Chris Chapman 79-36 the solid performers whilst Wez Turton played a lot of English for a Turk !.
Fords B step into next round after beating Farnworth B 296-284 – A.Riccio 74-34 and Paul Dunn 71-43 sharing the spoils.
Runcorn Con Artists move on after beating Birchfield B 414-303 – Jay Cumpper 98-47 and Peter Cumpper 101-6 in a one sided match.
Village C ended Widnes Cons A’s chances 408-377 – predominantly due to Liam Riley’s 54-48 winning frame.
WCC B ended USC B’s cup run after a strong 491-352 win – Joe Parry 80-71 getting them off to a flying start.
St Bedes B put Village Galacticos out of the competition 477-420 – Kev Johnson 67-56 and John Hallsworth 53-48 enough to see them through.
