Snooker
Division One
Fords A narrowed the gap at the top after whitewashing last year’s champs St Josephs A 9-0 – Chris Whitfield 112-29 and Jim Jenkins 92-21 impressing most.
Runcorn Cons A beat Farnworth A 7-2 – Ian Atherton 60-56 and Kyle Farrington 64-47 in a close match.
WCC A were also 7-2 winners this time against Runcorn Cons B – Danny Morris 82-9 and Dave Loseby 68-55 both in good form.
Overton remain in third spot after beating HGSC B 7-2 – Excellent frames from John Hughes 87-21, Tony Penny 99-10 and Geoff Brassington 89-25 ensuring the win.
The match of the week came at Stadium A as they beat league leaders St Bedes 6-3 – Openers Paul Goulden 62-49 and Paul Rigby 70-34 set the standards for the home side.
Fords B moved clear of the relegation zone as they beat Simms Cross A 6-3 – Mike Carew 64-27 including a 40 break and Jimmy Dunn 78-39.
RAOB staged the closest match of the week as they beat a strong Widnes Cons A 5-4 – John Ratcliffe 92-36 including breaks of 32 and 33 and Ray Dutton 57-45 taking the handicap by three points ( Andrew Housley had a 61 unfinished break and Tony Cook had a 33 break for the Tory Boys).
Division Two
USC thumped Millbrow A 8-1 – Great wins for Paul Tudor 81-23, Paul Taylor 79-30 and Dale Roberts 69-28 saw them moved into third in the table and mount their challenge for the title.
St Basils continue their run of form as they again won 8-1 – Dennis Simcock 96-21 and Terry Welsh 73-40 providing the momentum.
Simms Cross B beat Widnes Rec 7-2 – Ste Rowe 73-38 and Aiden Morris 97-20 amongst their winners.
Village B were 7-2 winners over Millbrow B - Neil Webster 73-46 and Lol Ogburn 60-27 putting the Millbrow boys under pressure.
Birchfield B also won 7-2 away to HGSC A – Kev Johnson 56-53 and John Hallsworth 70-28 taking the plaudits this week.
Widnes Cons C beat WCC A 7-2 also – Massive wins from Peter Boardman 80-8 and Phil Henderson 80-20 including a 31 break proved too much for the cricketers.
Corporation A won 6-3 – Andy Freeman 90-11 and Kenny Cunningham 70-24 the star men this week.
Stadium B also won 6-3 – Danny Naughton 62-25 the frame of the night.
Division Three
Runcorn Cons C had a great 7-2 away win at Village C – Ste Edwards 99-23 and Paul Cumpper 75-18 both on top form.
WCC B had a 7-2 home win over Prescot Reform B – Joe Parry 50-41 and Geoff Soul 89-30 impressing most.
Farnworth C returned to form as they beat Widnes Cons B 6-3 – Opener Jamie King 61-43 and Clive Rimmer 74-16 last on ensuring the victory.
Corporation B had a good 6-3 win over Stadium C – Opening duo Tony Rawlinson 71-33 and Liam Riccio 60-51 and Tom Cafferty beat Dave Jones 60-51.
Stadium D beat Oddfellows 5-4 – Alex Millington 69-34 the pick of the bunch.
Prescot Reform A beat Birchfield A 5-4 – Colin Minshall 94-13 and Colin McCarthy 71-28 with big wins.
RWMC beat Farnworth D 5-4 – Andy Relph 102-16 and Dave Ellison 60-44 too much in the opening frames.
Week Twenty Seven
Billiards Team Knockout Final
The final of the billiards team knockout saw Simms Cross A take on and defeat Fords 571-475 at a packed Widnes Conservative Club – Eric Baker 100-78, Eddie McNicholas 100-89, Kenny Boscoe 100-78, Mick Anderson 100-64 and Ernie Burns 100-66 proving too much for Fords (Chris Achilles 56 break and Tommy Barton 31 break for Fords).

Division One
St Bedes continue their dominance at the top of the league after another fine 8-1 victory, this time over Runcorn Cons A – Openers Danny Plumpton 52-30 and John Hartshorn 80-34 setting the pace for the rest of the team (Johnny Holland sat on the bench repeatedly ringing in results).
Fords A also took an 8-1 win against Stadium A – Excellent frames from Pat Horne 106-19 and Peter Corns 95-14 eased them to a solid victory.
Widnes Cons A remain in third spot as they beat Fords B 7-2 – Superb frames from Mark Smith 103-11 including a 61 break and Andrew Housley 102-14 including a 46 break for the Tory Boys, whilst Paul Dunn had a 22 clearance in his frame for Fords.
RAOB had a good 7-2 win over HGSC B – Brothers in arms Andy Pennington 79-17 including a 24 break and Frank Pennington 75-29 including a 35 break both hitting form at the same time at last.
Simms Cross A won 6-3 at home to St Josephs A – Final Pairing of Kenny Kilshaw 61-34 and Jason Kilshaw 71-39 ensured the win.
Village A beat Farnworth A 5-4 – Mark King 69-36 including a 57 break and Ste Millington 108-10.
WCC A beat Irish Club 5-4 – Dave Loseby 80-11 and Danny Morris 49-36 starring for the cricketers.
Division Two
Birchfield B had a tremendous 9-0 win over former leaders Millbrow A – John Hallsworth 78-46 and Richie Seddon 78-35 sorting the men from the boys in the final two frames.
St Basils took a big 8-1 victory over Corporation A – Openers Dennis Simcock 53-46 and Barry Lane 53-39 setting the standards.
Millbrow B regain pole position after their 8-1 win over Farnworth B – Danny Magee 61-50 and Scott Price 111-24 both impressing on the table but rubbish at hangman!
Birchfield C were also 8-1 victors – Roy Randles 83-34 and Paul Hilton 73-23 on form (Danny Naughton had a 42 break for the Stadium)
HGSC A beat Widnes Rec 7-2 – Alan Dunn 88-38 and Phil Slavin 87-20 with big wins.
Widnes Cons C were 7-2 winners over Village B – John Rowan 96-50, Paul Anderson 87-20 and Col Grindley 79-25 shone for the con club.
St Josephs B had a close 5-4 win over Simms Cross B – Eric Baker 90-28 their outstanding performance of the evening.
Division Three
Corporation B continue their great form after beating WBC 8-1 – Tony ‘The Tiger’ Rawlinson was beyond superb in his incredible, televised, 48-30 frame, even better than Liam ‘Chico’ Riccio who was average in his 50-36 frame (mine’s a pint of golden ‘Tigger’).
Stadium D beat a woeful Farnworth C 7-2 – final duo L. Lund 75-35 and J. Murphy 74-35 making sure of the points.
Runcorn Cons C also had a 7-2 against Farnworth D – P. Cumpper 63-50 and Dean Bentley 86-11 starring.
Prescot Reform A remain hot favourites for the title as they beat their B team 6-3 – Colin McCarthy 96-24 including a 30 and Dave Nulty 68-39 including a 23 break taking the plaudits in a one sided match.
Stadium C scraped past Village C 5-4 – Mark Ogburn’s 62-28 win being the highlight.
RWMC also won 5-4 at home to WCC B – Dave Ellison 49-43 and Andy Relph 63-36 amongst their winners.
Week Twenty Six
Billiards
The final match of this season saw Widnes Bowling Club regain their title after they beat Farnworth A 5-2 – Excellent winning frames from Callum ‘Puppy Love’ Malloy 100-48, Peter ‘Bulldog’ Myler 100-58 and John ‘Dog End’ Twist 100-77 – Congratulations to the Champions.
Widnes Cricket Club finished as runners up as they beat Farnworth B 4-3 in a very close match taking the handicap by a single point – Openers Leon Hosking 100-59 and Joe Parry 100-66 setting the standard.
Widnes Conservative Club A finished in third spot after a good 6-1 win over Simms Cross B – Tony ‘Backspin’ Grant 100-77 and John ‘Backache’ Tighe 100-88 in good form.
Fords had a great 6-1 away victory at United Services Club – Peter Corns 100-45 and Pat Burns 100-75 setting the pace first up.
Widnes Conservative Club B were also 6-1 winners at home to Simms Cross A – Leo Milne 100-73 and Eddie Herald 100-95 taking the plaudits.

Division Three
Stobart Stadium C had a big 8-1 victory over Farnworth D – Mark Ogburn 83-18 including a 35 break and Dave Jones 47-40 including a seasons best 9 break.
Stobart Stadium D also had a big win 7-2 at home to Birchfield A – Dave Gerrard 83-33 and Andy Millington 65-9 both on form in the middle frames.
Runcorn Cons C thumped WCC B 7-2 – Dean Bentley 97-11 and ‘Stanley’ Edwards 76-28 starred on the night.
Corporation B matched that scoreline after beating a strong Village C side 7-2 – Tony ‘The Tiger’ Rawlinson 57-35 and Liam ‘pays each week for a mention’ Riccio 53-33.
Prescot Reform B took home a good 5-4 away win over Widnes Cons B – Ste Evans 63-42 and Paul Williams 66-25 enough to seal the victory.
RWMC beat a strong Prescot Reform A side 5-4 – Opening Duo Lee ‘Bamber’ Gascoigne 106-34 including a tremendous division matching break of 55 and Andy ‘Bambi’ Relph 78-33 their winners.
Division Two
Millbrow A take over top spot after another massive 8-1 win this time over Widnes Rec – Tony O’Neil 67-21 and Skipper Norman Locke 80-56 with big frames.
Birchfield C knocked Millbrow B into second position after their 7-2 victory – Andy Findlater 61-57 and Roy Randles 59-18 the star men.
Farnworth B continued their recent good form winning 7-2 this week – Tony ‘Hamburger’ Hill 68-15 and John ‘Chicken Nugget’ Pinder 77-29 making a meal of Village B.
St Josephs B gained much need points as they beat HGSC A 7-2 – Scrabble twins Eddie Szczotok 61-51 and Karl Szczotok 54-34 causing Hough Green in a conundrum. (Alan Dunn had a 35 break for the losing team).
St Basils had a 6-3 win over Stobart Stadium B – M.Ellis 84-34 and T.Prescott 90-31.
Widnes Cricket Club C beat Birchfield B 5-4 – Peter Foster 71-31 and Leon Hosking 92-30 on form as usual.
Widnes Cons C narrowly beat United Services Club 5-4 – Colin Grindley 70-40 and John Rowan 67-48 doing just enough.
Division One
RAOB turned out the biggest win of the week by whitewashing Runcorn Cons B 9-0 – Syd Payne opened with a 52-41 win and Ste Ratcliffe finished with a 68-42 win.
Runcorn Cons A faired much better as they beat Fords A 7-2 – Rob Farrington 100-36 including breaks of 31, 20 and a 22 clearance and Kyle ‘Card Cheat’ Farrington 79-40 ensuring the points ( Jimmy Jenkins had a 33 break in vain for the motormen).
Overton punished WCC A 7-2 – John Hughes 120-4 including a tremendous 80 break, Geoff Brassington 123-5 including a 40 break and Chris Achilles 99-26 including breaks of 37 and 34 proving too good for the cricket club.
HGSC B continue their good form as they beat Fords B 6-3 – Ste ‘I’ll be back’ O’Connor 96-15 including a 41 break and Terry ‘Glass Back’ Cartwright 62-29 on top form.
Stobart Stadium A had a 6-3 victory over Simms Cross A – Ray ‘Cantona’ Pierce 57-38 and Baz Yates 67-25 .
St Josephs A won 6-3 against Widnes Cons A – ‘Captain Marvel’ Gary Staniford 58-44 ensuring the win last on.
Farnworth A were also 6-3 winners against The Irish Club – final pairing John Davenport 69-26 and Andy Stacey 48-35 making sure of the win.
Village A beat Table topping St Bedes 5-4 – Richie Whittle 78-44 and Ste Millington 72-25 first up.
Week Twenty Five
Billiards
The penultimate week of the Billiards season saw WBC move to within half a point of back to back titles after their 5-2 away win at Simms Cross A – Massive final frames from John ‘Jan Verhaas’ Twist 100-94 and Ian ‘Michaela Tabb’ Lowe 100-37 helped put one hand on the trophy.
Second place WCC all but blew their chances after a heavy 6-1 defeat at home to Simms Cross B – Dave Forshaw 100-66 and Paul Bradburne 100-64 gave Simmies the victory.
In the Farnworth Derby the A team claimed bragging rights after beating the B team 4-3 – Final pairing of Terry Bourke 100-42 and Paul Cleary 100-53 both in good form.
USC A are still battling for third spot as they beat Widnes Cons A 4-3 – Danny ‘Baby Face’ Magee 100-45 and George ‘Leather Face’ Riccio 100-48 ensuring the final push.

Overton showed their metal as they thumped Irish Club 7-2 – Chris Achilles 110-12, Geoff Brassington 94-23 including an 83 clearance and Ian White 67-12 including a 33 break.
Fords A turned over Village A 7-2 – Pat Horne 76-34 including a 38 break, Phil Horne 60-38 and Jimmy Jenkins 61-53 including a 44 break. (Mike King had a 48 break for the villagers).
HGSC B hammered St Josephs A 7-2 – Barry Connor 74-29 and Tony Johnson 76-8 including a 32 break. (Aidy O’Connor chipped in with breaks of 34 and 20).
Simms Cross A beat Runcorn Cons A 7-2 – Mick Anderson 72-39 and Jason Kilshaw 92-9 ensuring the handicap.
Fords B also 7-2 winners after Ken Metcalfe pasted A. Another 147-0 !!
WCC A had a 5-4 win at home to RAOB – Dave Loseby 70-19 and Danny Morris 75-39.
Stadium A had a very, very good 5-4 win away to Widnes Cons A – Anthony Leather 52-50 including a 27 clearance and Baz Yates 57-48 including a 35 break.

Millbrow A continue their good form as they gained another 9-0 victory, this time away to St Josephs B – Norman Locke 88-51 and Mark ‘Mr Humble’ Peach 81-37.
Farnworth B had a well earned 8-1 victory over Widnes Cons C – Opener Paul Coughlin 81-19, John ‘The Rocker’ Pinder 80-43 and Hughie ‘Rocking Chair’ Farrell 70-45.
Simms Cross B won 7-2 – Dave Quirk 66-17 and Paul Bradburne 69-39 enough to seal the win.
Birchfield C beat Village B by one handicap point 7-2 – James Condron 89-35 and John Shaw 65-30.
USC beat up Birchfield B 7-2 – Jedwood stars Neil Whelan 91-26 and Dale Roberts 80-19 with glittering performances.
WCC C also won 7-2 – Peter Foster 68-48 and Leon Hosking 77-30 in their usual form.
Millbrow A managed to beat St Basils 6-3 – Danny Woolley 63-39 starred in a close match.
Corporation A beat HGSC A 6-3 – Jason Sharp 69-41 and Rob Morris 93-42.
Division Three
Corporation B continue their good form as they beat struggling Farnworth D 8-1 – Opening superstar Liam ‘Rocky Balboa’ Riccio 59-36 and Brian ‘Marlon’ Mercer 66-27 with good wins.
Table topping Prescot Reform A won 8-1 – Colin Minshall 76-18 and Colin McCarthy 59-24.
Village C earned an 8-1 victory over WBC – Liam Riley 69-5 and Dave ‘Hurricane’ O’Keefe 72-34 in a one sided match.
WCC B shamed Stadium C 7-2 – Dave Robinson 68-34 and Joe Parry 70-16 amongst their winners.
Farnworth C beat a resurgent Oddfellows 6-3 – Up and coming superstar Davey Boy Quirk shone in his 80-35 final frame. (Breaks of 22 for Les Banks and 23 for Jamie ‘Crown Jewels’ King.
Prescot Reform B earned a 6-3 against Stadium D – Jim Furbanks 66-37 and Ste Evans 62-20.
Widnes Cons B beat RWMC 5-4 – Tommy Gallaway 60-41 and Leo Milne 67-42 taking the plaudits.
