Week Thirteen

Billiards
WBC continue their dominance of the billiards league thanks to a rousing 6-1 away win at Farnworth A – Callum Malloy 100-23 and John Dennett 100-31 including a sensational 59 break.
USC A got back to winning ways with a 5-2 at Fords – Richard Whittle 100-24, George ‘The Italian Stallion’ Riccio 100-43 and Andrew Housley 100-15 including breaks of 37 and an unfinished 46.
Widnes Cons A overcame Simms Cross B 4-3 – Peter Kenny 100-84 and Mark Smith 100-50 both on fine form.
The best win of the week came as WCC whitewashed Farnworth B 7-0 – Openers Rob Taylor 100-55 and Leon Hosking 100-5 in a spectacular frame.

Division Three
WBC continue their resurgent form in the third division thanks to an impressive 8-1 away win – Roy Syze 72-42, Tony Purcell 76-39 and Ste Leadbetter 71-35.
Prescot Reform A remain in close contention after thrashing their opponents 8-1 – Colin Minshall 87-26, Ray Baldwin 75-29 and Ged Jones 74-14.
WCC B overturned table topping Farnworth C 7-2 – Joe Parry 50-49, Stuart Barge 53-49 and Alan Mercer 48-29 all taking experienced scalps.
Birchfield A continue their winning ways with a 7-2 victory – Maurice Cookson 87-42 and Eddie Dixon 68-39.
Prescot reform B beat struggling Village C 6-3 – Les Clare 83-25 and Keith Wilson 83-33.
The Youngsters of Corporation B won 6-3 – Jack Doyle 70-40 and Anthony Rawlinson 55-36.

Division Two
The Millbrow B juggernaut continues to roll as they won 7-2 – Opening duo Carl ‘Runcorn’ Woods 72-28 and Danny Wooley 73-45 were ably assisted by skipper Westley Turton 87-32.
Farnworth B gained a much needed 6-3 win against fellow strugglers St Josephs B – Ste Smith 69-49 and Hughie Farrell 82-39.
Millbrow A continued to dominate Widnes Cons C by winning 6-3 – Tony O’Neil 63-33, Norman Locke Snr 63-20 and star of the show Norman Locke Jnr annihilated his opponent 114-9 including breaks of 25 and 20.
Village B also 6-3 winners – Gaz Grady 51-28 and Aaron Depablo 78-28.
Birchfield C overcame Widnes Rec 7-2 – Bob Randalls 60-42 and Paul Hilton 76-30.
WCC C beat HGSC A 6-3 thanks to anchormen Phil Spencer 73-37 and a top performance from Simon ‘Hotdog’ Haste 56-32.
Birchfield B continue their Jekyll /Hyde season beating St Basils 6-3 – Joey Mark 74-42 and John Hallsworth 74-21 stars of the show.

Division One
HGSC B surprised Runcorn Cons B 6-3 – Impressive wins for Barry Connor 52-42 and Gaz Rowlands 107-36.
Irish Club continue their march up the table after winning 5-4 – Dave Newton 96-21, Jimmy Murray 83-19 and Declan Cassidy 94-33 including a 24 and a superb 69 break.
Fords A currently hold joint second spot after winning 8-1 on a match deciding re-spot black ball – Pat Horne 91-23 and Chris Whitfield 59-25.
St Bedes remain the team to beat as they also ran out 8-1 winners – Andy McKay 73-8 and Danny Plumpton 73-23.
Widnes Cons A also remain hot on the heels of the leaders after an impressive 8-1 win of their own – Tony Cook 89-31 and Matty Jackson 79-20 (Danny Morris’s 96-17 frame included two 22 breaks and was in vain for WCC A)
Farnworth A were 6-3 winners on the final black of the match – Ste Ainsworth 62-48 and the ever reliable Chris Smart 76-37 doing the damage.
Village A continue their good form winning 6-3 – Mike King 91-39, Andy Molyneux 98-14 and a superb 99-31 frame from Ste Millington included a 58 break.
Simms Cross A accounted for Overton 6-3 – Impressive frames from Kenny Boscoe 68-42 and Jason Kilshaw 64-37.

Monthly meeting – Tuesday 8th December – 7.30 at Widnes Rec – ALL clubs need to be represented.

 

Week Twelve

Billiards
In this weeks billiards league WBC continue to dominate after a 6-1 thrashing of Simms Cross A – Openers Willie Barnwell 100-73 and Peter Myler 100-99 setting the pace.
WCC continue to pressure after beating Simms Cross B 6.5-0.5 – Final pairing of Andy Knight 100-77 and Dave Loseby 100-35 ensured a big win.
The Farnworth ‘Derby’ saw the A team trounce the B team 6-1 – Chris Chapman 100-38 and little mentioned Chris Smart 100-32 putting paid to the challenge.
Widnes Cons A thumped USC A 6-1 – Peter Kenny 100-53 and Bernie Edwards 100-38 were on form (Andrew Housley had a magnificent 67 break in his 100-36 winning frame for the ‘Services’)

 

Snooker Team Knockout

Farnworth D continued their new found form as they beat RWMC 432-341 – ‘Chuckle Brothers’ Tommy Sheehy 64-49 and Martin Sheehy 56-36 turning in the best performances.
Birchfield A put paid to current first division champions St Josephs A cup hopes with an excellent team performance 456-389 including a great 56-54 winning frame from Geoff Illidge.
Widnes Bowling Club beat fellow third division side Widnes Cons B 394-309 – Roy Syze 50-39 and Tony Purcell 93-37 amongst the winners.
Hough Green Social Club B beat a very strong Overton team 449-396 – Ste O’Connor 78-30 being the frame of the match whilst Geoff Brassington’s 70 clearance was surely the highlight of the night.
Farnworth C earned themselves passage to the next round by beating WCC A – An excellent opening frame from Paul Williams 65-54 coupled with a final frame victory for Clive Rimmer 77-33 enough on the night.
Corporation B surprised all to beat an underperforming Fords B 478-270 – Brian Mercer 73-41 and Dave Hanley 58-56 ensuring the win.
Widnes Cons A managed to beat league newboys Runcorn Cons C 442-399 – Andy Grice 97-6 including a 37 clearance, Andrew Housley 81-13 including a 39 break and Matty Jackson 87-20 including a 33 break.
Village C move into next round after beating St Josephs B 380-323 -  Paul O’Keefe 66-25 and Dave O’Keefe 67-50 including a 27 break enough to see them through.
Simms Cross A beat Stadium D 398-336 – Kev Marsh 72-31 and Jason Kilshaw 75-35 among their winners.
WCC C knocked out Corporation A 341-302 – Leon Hosking was once again man of the match with his 98-31 performance.
Simms Cross B won at home to WCC B 442-379 – Dave Evans 92-38 and Ste Rowe 75-29 helping them to victory.
Birchfield B put out Prescot Reform B 400-340 – The legend that is Billy Hewitt 101-14 and John Hallsworth 88-16 clawing back the handicap early on.
Stadium C knocked out Oddfellows 335-245 – Mark Ogburn 70-31 and Dave Jones 55-25 putting them in the hat for the next round.
Millbrow A put in a massive performance against a strong Widnes Cons C side which earned them a 377-264 victory – Norman Locke Jnr 76-39 and Rico Locke 79-34 in a good all round performance.

 

 

Week Eleven

Snooker
Division One
The most explosive match of the week came at the Irish Club as they hammered Runcorn Cons B 8-1 – Jimmy Murray ‘Mint’ 122-9 and Mike Chester ‘Zoo’ 119-17 (Dave Rogers had a 45 consolation break for the Runcorn side).
St Bedes continue to dominate the division as they annihilated current champions St Josephs A 9-0 – Danny Plumpton 80-30 and Tommy Myler 112-3 ensured the victory was decided in the middle frames.
The Fords ‘Derby’ went the way of the A team as they edged out a 5-4 win – Starmen Jimmy Jenkins 100-7 including a 49 break and Pat Horne 87-27 with a 49 break continue their recent form.
Struggling HGSC B gained a much needed 7-2 away win – This weeks unlikely heroes were – Tony Johnson 59-44 and ‘Yo’ Adrian O’Connor 70-46.
Fellow strugglers RAOB matched that scoreline thanks to Andrew Pennington 61-40 and Old Stalwart Syd ‘Max’ Payne 85-39 who single handedly engineered victory last on.
Farnworth A came home 6-3 winners with big performances from John Davenport 97-29 and Chris Smart 93-20.
Widnes Cons A find themselves hot on the heels of the leaders after an impressive 7-2 away win at Overton – Partners in crime Andy ‘Mr Frosty’ Grice 76-33, Andy ‘Mr Pink’ Housley 70-54 including a 32 clearance and Matty ‘Man in the Mirror’ Jackson 73-41.
Village A could only manage a 5-4 win but were indebted to Ste ‘You Will Lose’ Rawlinson 69-35 and Mike King 74-35.

Division Two
Top of the table clash went the way of Millbrow B as they overcome Widnes Cons C 7-2 – Scott ‘The Potter’ Price 76-49 and Danny ‘The Magican’ Magee 65-35 with ‘Flippin’ excellent performances.
Corporation A keep up their challenge with a 6-3 win – Andy ‘The White Knight’ Freeman 67-29 and Peter ‘The Real’ Henderson 76-23.
Even bottom of the table St Josephs B got in on the act winning 6-3 – Geoff ‘Ali’ Carter 61-36 and Karl ‘I think this is how you spell it’ Kotozczs 69-35.
WCC C continue their winning ways routing Millbrow A 8-1 – Tony ‘El Gringo’ McDonnell 67-34 and Leon Hosking 76-34 in a wonderful frame in which he had a 40 break and his opposition Rico Locke had a 27. (Ashley Birch was superb in his teams only frame win 113-20)
Birchfield B tasted a bitter sweet victory back on old ground to win 7-2 – Kev Johnson 59-35 and Joey Mark 49-37.
USC also ran out 6-3 winners – Paul ‘Tenpole’ Tudor 91-23 and Ste ‘The Slayer’ Teebay 59-25.
The biggest win of the week came for lowly St Basils as they whitewashed hapless Widnes Rec 9-0 – Opening duo Barry Lane 77-12 and Matty Fitzsimmons 63-46.

Division Three
Farnworth C continue to conquer all as they overcame Prescot Reform A 6-3 – Skipper in the making Brian Cafferty beat a fellow superstar in Colin McCarthy 60-33 whilst Paul ‘Popeye’ Williams beat a fellow ‘Sailor’ 76-29.
Widnes Cons B remain hot on the heels as they annihilated Oddfellows 9-0 – Tommy Galloway 67-31 and Mark Worrall 55-46 both impressing.
RWMC cruised to a 7-2 away win – Dave Morton 47-20 and Lee Evans 58-19 doing the damage.
Stadium C continue their good form winning 7-2 also – Final pair Jack Clayton 103-21 and Mark Ogburn 105-21 (Skipper Dave Jones showed mileage in dropping himself).
Corporation B ran out 7-2 winners – R.Woods 80-25 and L.Riccio 71-43 helped ‘Batters’ their opponents.
Birchfield A edged out WCC B – Geoff Cookson 64-49 and Geoff Illidge 70-31 accounting for their rivals.
Farnworth D turned the corner as they won an extremely tight match 7-2 – Anchormen Paul ‘Kate’ Hoey 44-42 and a superb frame from skipper John Sheehy 73-33 which included a nice 22 break made all the difference.

Billiards
Simms Cross B won 5-2 thanks to usual suspects Dave Forshaw 100-40 and Barry Wainwright 100-76.
Fords also ran out 5-2 winners – Nigel White 100-27 and Ken Pearsall 100-58 the unsung heroes.
USC remain in contention after a 4-3 away win – Brian Woodrow 100-60 and Andrew Housley 100-32 including a 43 break.
Simms Cross A and Farnworth A shared the spoils 3.5 each – Ernie Burns 100-32 was best for the Institute whilst Terry Burke 100-60 including a 41 break was inspirational for Farnworth.

 

Week Ten

Billiards
Credible Target Set!
League stalwart Tony ‘I Don’t Believe It’ Bibby chipped in with a league best 65 unfinished break in a sparkling 100-38 frame in Farnworth A’s 4-3 victory – professional referee Colin Humphreys 100-78 with a studious display.
Widnes Cons B won the ‘Derby’ 4-3 – Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Herald 100-55 and John ‘Get’ Carter 31 break.
USC A impressed in a 5-2 home win – Danny ‘Debbie’ Magee 100-64 and Richard ‘The Lion Heart’ Whittle 100-19 including breaks of 37 and 32 with a crusading victory.
WBC still remain top despite going down 5-2 to fierce rivals Fords – John Childes ‘Play’ 100-73 and Peter ‘Chucky’ Corns 100-55.

Snooker
Division One

Clash Of The Titans !
Village A put in a God like performance against Warrington’s best Irish Club – A ‘large’ display from Ste ‘Poseidon’ Rawlinson 106-5 and Andy ‘Zeus’ Molyneux 101-26 both with righteous displays.
Top of the table clash between Fords A and St Josephs A went the way of the Penketh side 7-2 – Nathan ‘So Long, Farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, Adieu’ Roberts 60-49 and Andy ‘High On A Hill There’s A Lonely Goat’ Burke 107-28.
St Bedes have now opened the gap after another 8-1 win – unsung heroes Tommy ‘Gun’ Myler 79-23 and John Hartshorn ‘Off Shotgun’ 80-25.
Runcorn Cons A remain hot on their heels after a 6-3 away win – Ian ‘Ted Hankey’ Atherton 78-31 hit the bull whilst Eric ‘Mr Hankey the Christmas Poo’ Fairfield 87-21 caused a stink.
Simms Cross A returned to winning ways accounting for Fords B 6-3 – Mark ‘Microsoft’ Bingham 86-29 including breaks of 37 and 20 and Mike ‘Cuddly and Soft’ Batty 87-26.
Widnes Cons A remain hard to beat winning this week 7-2 – Mark ‘Hail Caesar’ Smith 73-16, Matty ‘Crowd Pleaser’ Jackson 64-39 and Andrew ‘Likes Maltesers’ Housley 103-2.
HGSC B shot down powerful Overton 6-3 – Father/Son Combo Ste ‘Too Cool For Pool’ O’Connor 66-20 and Aidy ‘Too Cool For School’ O’Connor 45-31.

Division Two
The biggest shock of the week came as Village B routed Millbrow B 7-2 – ‘Ginger Ninja’ Neil Webster 57-39, Ste ‘It’s Raining Men’ Brolly 68-36 and Gaz ‘Paul’ O’Grady 55-31.
The basement battle between St Josephs B and St Basils was won by the Penketh side 7-2 – Karl ‘Boggle’ Szczotok 51-33 and Andy ‘VXR’ Langley 60-23 ensured their opponents were cannon fodder.
Corporation A continue their impressive run of form as they cruised home 7-2 – Anchormen Mike Harrison ‘Ford’ 69-20 and Kenny ‘Happy Days’ Cunningham 76-44.
Birchfield B won a hard fought game 5-4 – Middle duo Kevin ‘And Perry Go Large’ Johnson 47-26 and ‘Lionel’ Richie Seddon 77-24 was dancing on the ceiling.
Millbrow A sneaked home 6-3 – Ashley ‘High Tower’ Birch 82-39 and ‘Puerto’ Rico Locke 67-24 showed Latin flair.
Widnes Rec finally came out to play and upset Simms Cross B 7-2 – Old Timers John ‘Ken Barlow’ Hunt 76-30 and Tommy ‘Uncle Fred’ Laughton 67-35 streets ahead.
Farnworth B also 7-2 winners – Starmen once again were Paul ‘Phlegmy’ Coughlin 51-43 including a 25 break and Paul Worth ‘Less’ 86-26 including a nice 33 break (Stadium B skipper Danny Naughton chipped in with a 33 break in vain).
Widnes Cons C remain the team to catch as they beat WCC C 7-2 – Colin ‘Zombie Flick’ Grindley 73-35, John ‘Herbal Supplements’ Rowan 99-31, but the frame of the night came between Leon Hosking and Paul Anderson – Paul had a 27 clearance after Leon had posted a league best 49 break.

Division Three
Newboys Starting To Click!.
Runcorn Cons C surprised themselves as they earned an impressive 7-2 win – Tom Batters ‘Fish’ 66-32 and Dean Bentley ‘Motors’ 87-27 including a spectacular 40 break.
Stadium C handed out a lesson to Corporation B with an 8-1 this week – John ‘Razors’ Edge 80-47 and Dave Jones 69-31 (apparently with a 70 clearance !!) – Tony ‘The Fossil’ Rawlinson got beat again.
Last seasons big hitters Oddfellows got back to winning ways as they ran out 7-2 victors – Dave ‘Saint’ Christopher 75-43 and Les ‘Sinner’ Banks 66-42.
Prescot Reform B eased to an 8-1 home win – Jim ‘Ooooh Yes’ Fairbank 88-19 and Alf ‘Alien Life Form’ Evans 65-33.
Birchfield A managed to hang on for a 5-4 win – Usual suspects Geoffrey ‘Rainbow’ Illidge 62-35 and Ian ‘Zippy’ Sharples 44-26 ensuring the win.
RWMC could only manage a 5-4 win, just missing out on the handicap – Dave Morton ‘Gamst Pederson’ 68-27 and Lee ‘Paul Gazza’ Gascoigne 83-20.
Farnworth C remain the team to catch as they edge clear at the top after beating a powerful Widnes Cons B 7-2 – Anchormen Brian ‘The Hobbit’ Cafferty 55-44 and Clive ‘Gandalf’ Rimmer 78-24 sealing the victory.
