Fords continue to shine in the billiards league with another 6-1 away win – John Childes 100-56 and Peter Corns 100-46 with the early season form.
USC threw down their title credentials accounting for defending champions WBC 4-3 – Anchormen Andrew Housley 100-20 and skipper Howard Jones 100-72 showing how it’s done.
In the Simms Cross Institute ‘derby’ it went the way of the ‘B’ team 4-3 – Fine displays from Peter Knight 100-36 and Jimmy Furbank 100-47.
Farnworth A also 4-3 winners – Tony Bibby 100-60 and Paul Cleary 100-47 leading the way.
Division One
Fords A threw down the gauntlet in division one as they routed fellow title rivals St Bedes 9-0 – ‘Toffeemen’ Jimmy Jenkins 74-24 and Chris Whitfield 74-30 helped them out of a sticky situation.
High flying Runcorn Cons B ran out 8-1 winners with stunning displays again from Dave Rogers 87-31, Tony Cayzer 81-19 and ‘Stealth’ Robin Fretwell 95-17.
WCC A also 8-1 winners against defending champions St Josephs A – Billy Webster 65-40 and Dave Loseby 61-30 with prized scalps.
Runcorn Cons A sit joint top after a narrow 7-2 win – Peter Quinn 60-37 and Ian Lowe 70-41 including breaks of 29 and 22.
The fiercest rivalry in the Widnes league went the way of Widnes Cons A as they overcame Village A 7-2 – Mark Smith 68-57 and highly scouted Callum Malloy 87-14 made sure of the spoils (Ste Millington had a 45 break in vain for the Appleton side).
Eagle Sports returned to winning ways with a hard fought 5-4 victory – Phil Tsang 84-24 and Declan Cassidy 91-25 impressed but the frame of the night was when Kev Jenkins beat John Ratcliffe 62-58 after John’s superb 48 break.
Overton also ran out 5-4 winners – Geoff Brassington 93-17, John Hughes 104-20 and Ian White 77-26.
Simms Cross A also won by the narrowest margin, mainly due to a sensational frame from Mick Anderson 112-27.
Division Two
WCC C scraped home 6-3 – Just edging out the handicap thanks to a stunning final frame from Carlos ‘The Jackal’ Niloban 80-21 and a season equalling 46 break from starman Leon Hosking.
USC finally got their season going with an impressive 8-1 win – Brian Woodrow 65-37 and Skipper Neil Whelan 73-47 including a splendid 45 break.
HGSC A ran out 7-2 winners thanks to Alan Dunn 105-26 and Andy Ryan 94-30 which included a 39 break.
Widnes Cons C lead the way after an 8-1 home success – Captain Peter Boardman 69-27 and starman John Rowan 95-29 made it a long night for a below par Birchfield C team.
Millbrow A won 7-2 and remain in contention – Anchormen Norman Locke Snr 83-16 and Ashley Birch 73-29 making sure of the points.
Farnworth B impressed away at St Basils, cruising to a 6-3 victory – Ste Smith 64-29, John Pinder 93-29 and John ‘They was my Magic Shoes’ Tollitt 70-26 inc a nice 34 break.
Village B edged out Simms Cross B 5-4 – Neil Webster 44-36 and Jason Bright 54-53 with gritty displays.
Division Three
WCC B continue to impress as they handed another Walloping to the struggling Village C – Stuart Barge 83-21 and Dave Robinson 55-22 showing the ‘Old Guard’ how it’s done.
Table Topping Farnworth C won 8-1 – Jamie ‘Dodger’ King 73-28 including a 27 break led the way and Paul ‘Dogger’ Williams 60-35 followed.
Stobart Stadium C shocked previous leaders Widnes Cons B 7-2 – John Edge 81-44, Mark Ogburn 77-47 and Kyle O’Neil 84-31.
Prescot Reform B recovered from last weeks thumping by beating Oddfellows 6-3 – Opening combo Jim Furbank 45-39 and Ste Evans 52-26 got them off to the best possible start.
Farnworth D returned to winning ways accounting for WBC 6-3 – Martin ‘Six Pack’ Sheehy 49-34 and Dean ‘Silverback’ King 48-42 getting them back on track.
New boys Corporation B held on to a 5-4 win – thanks to Brian Mercer 69-29 and Rob Woods 66-29.
Widnes Cons D gained an unlikely 5-4 win over Stadium D thanks to Peter ‘Father Ted’ Fox 59-25 and Danny ‘Drink, Feck, Arse’ Hart 41-40.
October Meeting 7.30 on Tuesday 13th October will be held at Widnes Rec Club and will double as League E.G.M.

WCC handed out the most impressive beating of the week as they demolished WidnesCons'A 6.5-0.5. Graham 'Eyes Of A Hawk' Knight 100-78 and Jack 'Spidey Senses' Webb 100-62 displayed their special powers. Last season's third placed USC'A got off to a good start with a 4-3 away win. New boy Brian 'Bullseye' Woodrow 100-84 and Howard 'The Duck' Jones 100-57 got them off to a flyer. Farnworth'B accounted for last year's runners-up Fords by the same scoreline 4-3. John 'Forrest Gump' Tollitt 100-47 and Robbie Morris 'Dancer' 100-89 showed the opposition a clean pair of heels. WidnesCons'B round off the week's results as they also edged out a 4-3 win. Leo 'The Mysteron' Milne 100-61 and John Carter 'Diamond' 100-99 with sparkling displays.
Snooker Division One
St.Bedes continue to dominate the first division as they easily accounted for SimmsX'A 7-2. Opening combination John 'Doe' Hartshorn 89-19 and 'Rubber' Johnny Holland 56-42 went Dutch and shared success. RuncornCons'A won their bitter local derby against their 'B' team 7-2 thanks to steady if not spectacular performances from old stagers Ian 'Hawaii 50' Atherton 60-19 and Eric 'The Half A Bee' Fairfield 51-40 demoralising usefull opposition. Power packed Eagle Sports continue to find the Widnes League tough as they went crashing 7-2 to a weakened Fords'A side. 'Blue' Peter Corns 54-14 and Ken 'Exxxcellent!' Pearsall thats right folks KEN PEARSALL won 51-38!!! Everton should play more home games on a Thursday? Another supposed juggernaut who are misfiring are Village'A. They plummeted 6-3 at lowly HGSC'B. Terry 'Chocolate Orange' Cartwright 58-39 and Gary 'Mind That Child' Rowlands 60-44 both licking their strong foes. Last season's surprise package Stobart Stadium'A pinched a 5-4 win at WCC'A. Anthony Leather 'Fetish' 67-33 and Baz Yates 'Wine Bar' 83-19 ensured the win. Division One new boys Fords'B continue to impress as they squeezed past RAOB 6-3. Ken 'Doll' Metcalfe 62-30 and Jimmy 'Barbie' Dunn 53-42 both continuing their fine run of form. Defending Champions St.Josephs'A earned another good win thanks to Nathan 'Audrey' Roberts 85-12 which included a nice 43 break. Wrapping up proceedings in the first division this week were Farnworth'A as they pipped WidnesCons'A 5-4. Star of the show for the Farnworth side was the ageless Paul 'Inspector Clouseau' Cleary 70-49 which included a smart 31 break.
Snooker Division Two
The wildboys of WCC'C look like they mean business this season as they routed Stobart Stadium'B 8-1 away. Mike 'Black Cat' Sunderland 58-28 and Dave 'I Got' Wood 71-16 with hard showings. Farnworth'B put in a better performance this week as they cruised home 7-2. Ste 'Granny' Smith 66-37, Paul 'Wool' Worth 34 break, Norman 'Wisdom' Beesley 67-23 and John 'Life Is Like A Box Of Chocolates' Tollitt 75-29 produced a frame like you never know what you're gonna get. WidnesCons'C enhanced their league position with a comprehensive 7-2 away win at Widnes Rec. Paul 'Mr' Anderson 59-56 was excellent whilst Phil 'Rolls Royce Cue Action' Henderson 74-46 put 'Buzzer' to the sword. The Millbrow derby was won convincingly by the Millbrow'B team 7-2. The self proclaimed 'Army' had too much ammunition for their beleagered rivals as Danny 'The Magican' Magee 74-36 and 'Go' Westley Turton 68-28 showed no mercy. Norman Locke Jr further enhanced his reputation in defeat with a 35 break. Corporation'A matched that scoreline against relegation fodder USC. Peter 'I Want To Be As Good As Phil' Henderson 61-46 and 'Marky' Mark Freeman 47-36 supplied the necessary impetus. Title 'Darkhorses' Village'B beat scratch side HGSC'A 6-3. Captain marvellous Neil 'Waltzing Matilda' Webster 72-33 leading by example. Newly promoted Birchfield'B made light work of St.Josephs'B thanks to powerful frames from Chris 'Cross' Rathbone 68-44, John 'Mentholated' Hallsworth 86-24 and Kev 'Blazing Saddles' Johnson 62-40 not giving out any greetings. Birchfield'C also ran out winners this week but only by the narrowest of margins 5-4. Brothers in arms Paul 'Have You Seen My Baseball?' Condron 74-27 and James 'And The Giant Peach' Condron 54-30 getting them off to the best possible start.

A runaway leader is emerging in WidnesCons'B. They routed newly formed Corporation'B 9-0 thanks to experienced displays from Tommy 'The Hitman' Worrall 68-21 and Ged 'Yes M'Lady' Connor 73-38. Farnworth'C also whitewashed their opposition thanks to stalwarts Dave 'What's A Washing Machine?' Quirk 70-55, Brian 'Iron Lung' Cafferty 63-28 and Clive 'Garden St' Rimmer 72-23. Prescot Reform'A have established themselves as a real force after another impressive 8-1 win. Ste 'Ken' Barlow 78-22 and Colin 'Deirdre Rashid' McCarthy 81-26 with standout games. WCC'B handed out another thumping to Farnworth'D aka 'The Knights'. This week's 7-2 victory came courtesy of Dave 'The Weakest Link' Robinson 71-36, Stuart Bargh 'Pole' 58-39 and Geoff 'The Godfather Of' Soul 56-27. Dean King 'Kong' 25 clearance put in a monstrous display in his side's loss. Birchfield'A creamed WBC 6-3 thanks to another destructive opening pairing of Paul 'Sharpy's Better Half' Smith 57-49 and Maurice 'Day And The Time' Cookson 86-34. James 'Pound In The Bucket' Brown had a superb 89-37 frame in his team's defeat. The Stobart Stadium derby went to the new 'D' team 5-4. L.'Inger' Lund 53-16 and Dave 'Stevie' Gerrard 56-23 earning hard fought wins. Dave 'The Phantom' Jones 90-37 may have had a league best 37 break for his 'C' team. RWMC also ran out 5-4 winners against the odd-bods. Andy 'Pandy' Relph 81-28 and Dave 'Jennifer' Ellison 73-51 doing the damage.
Week Two
Billiards
In the first game of the billiards season title holders WBC started as they mean to go on with a 7-0 thrashing of Widnes Cons B – Ian Lowe 100-24 including a 30 break and Ian Atherton 100-47 including a 27 break setting the standards.
Farnworth A beat WCC 5-2 – Tony Bibby 100-51 and Paul Cleary 100-55 in what looks like a promising season.
Widnes Cons A also won 5-2 away to Farnworth B – Peter Kenny 100-27 and Tommy Worrall 100-70 making sure last on. (John Backley had a 32 break for Farnworth).
Simms Cross B were 5-2 victors over Fords – Barry Wainwright 100-71 and a massive frame from Billy ‘The Wiz’ Housley 100-58 proving too much for Fords.
Snooker
Division One
Fords A thumped Simms Cross A 8-1 – good wins from Pat Horne 96-25 and Chris Whitfield 64-27 nailing the points.
Runcorn Cons A won 7-2 – Robin Farrington 59-46 and Eric Fairfield 68-12 taking the plaudits.
St Bedes outclassed a very lethargic Widnes Cons A 7-2 – John Hartshorn 64-35 and Tony Myler 85-23 the stars of the show.
St Josephs A beat RAOB 7-2 – Andy Burke’s 93-18 frame which included a great 48 break proved to be the difference on the night.
Farnworth A also won 7-2 – Dave Boswell 78-23 and Chris Smart 87-18 just too much for Hough Green B.
Eagle Sports got themselves off and running against Fords B 5-4 – Phil Tsang 93-37 and Declan Cassidy 119-8 which included a wonderful 82 break, throwing down the gauntlet to the leagues big hitters.
Runcorn Cons B narrowly won 5-4 against Village A – Robin Fretwell 74-7 and Dave ‘Buck’ Rogers 85-28 being the difference (Mick King having breaks of 55 and 22 in his 118-6 frame for the Village)
Overton beat Stadium A 5-4 – Geoff Brassington 111-18 and Ian White 83-35 the usual suspects.
Division Two
HGSC A beat Farnworth B 7-2 – Openers Alan Dunn 86-16 and Andy Ryan 74-30 getting them off to a flyer.
Widnes Cons C also won 7-2 at home to St Basils – Colin Grindley 59-28 and Phil ‘The Auld Sharkster’ Henderson 71-20 battened down the hatches last on.
Millbrow B were 7-2 victors away to WCC C – Danny Woolley 92-17 and Wes Turton 55-18 starred in a big win for the ‘Brow’.
Millbrow A matched that scoreline as they beat Village B 7-2 – Norman Locke Jnr 57-30, Norman Locke Snr 56-29 and Rico Locke 79-27 making it a family affair.
St Josephs B went to Widnes Rec and took a 6-3 victory back – Andy Langley 65-28 and Ste Carter 76-22 doing enough on the night.
Birchfield C beat Simms Cross B 5-4 – John Shaw 91-26 and John Jones 47-44 the pick of the bunch.
Corporation took a 5-4 win in a close match-up with Birchfield B – Robbie Morris 76-43 making the difference.
Division Three
Prescot Reform A oozed class as they whitewashed Farnworth D 9-0 – Colin McCarthy 86-22 and Colin Minshall Snr 64-28 proved to be a class above.
Widnes Cons B beat Village C 8-1 – Openers Tommy Worrall 67-36 and Tommy Gallaway 68-16 rocked on.
Oddfellows were 7-2 winners against Widnes Cons D – Spen Sutton 43-34 and Dave Christopher 58-26 shone on the night.
Birchfield A won 6-3 against Prescot reform B – John O’Neill 61-58 and Paul ‘Smudge’ Smith 83-39 good winners (Ste Evans 28 break and K.Wilson 27 break for Reform)
WCC B beat WBC 6-3 – B.McCurdy 62-35 and Dave Robinson 53-28.
RWMC had a very tight 5-4 win over Farnworth C – Andy Relph 68-28 including a 25 clearance, Dave Morton 64-35 including a 20 break and Liam Evans 56-53 including a 24 break.
Corporation B beat Stadium D 5-4 – R.Wood 75-12 and J.Cheveau 62-29.

Division One
The first week of the new season saw a welcome return for John ‘Javelin’ Mercer in St Bedes 8-1 trouncing of HGSC B – Danny Plumpton 99-31 and John Hartshorn 73-37 helping them to victory.
Runcorn Cons B got off to a flyer beating Farnworth A 7-2 –Keith Bolton 90-32 and D.Rogers 86-23 with big frames along with good breaks from M.Shingler (41) and Chris Smart (51) for Farnworth.
Widnes Cons A had a 6-3 victory over Fords A – Ste Andrews 77-26 and first division newcomer Callum Malloy 61-27.
Stobart Stadium A also won 6-3 – Ray ‘Thank you very, very much’ Pierce 74-40 and Paul Goulden 61-39 the pick of the bunch.
Runcorn Cons A also 6-3 winners Ian Atherton 61-17 and Ian Lowe 76-42 with big scalps. An excellent 103-17 frame from Chris Achilles saw breaks of 47 and a 33 clearance in vain for Overton.
Fords B kicked off their season with a 5-4 win over defending champions St Josephs A – Ken Yeomans 53-39 and Ernie Griffiths 69-44 making the difference.
Simms Cross A won 5-4 at home to league newcomers Eagle Sports – Kev Marsh 65-56 and Jason Kilshaw 83-19.
Village A also 5-4 winners - Richie Whittle 89-26 and Ste Millington 66-24 just two of their five winners.
Division Two
Widnes Rec went away to Corporation and took a 7-2 win – Jack Lord 78-40 and Paul Antrobus 68-53 including a 44 break (John ‘Buzzer’ Behan returned to the fold with a 66-28 win).
Birchfield C also won 7-2 – Paul Hilton 89-27 and Paul Condron 84-45 the stars on the night.
Millbrow A beat Farnworth B 7-2 – Norman Locke Jnr 70-22 including a 25 break and Ricco Locke 73-31 last on.
Millbrow B also won 7-2 – Opener Danny Magee 80-20 and Danny Wooley 55-51 (Howard Jones made a 43 break in vain for USC).
Stobart Stadium B had a 7-2 home win over Birchfield B - Dave Hankin 75-39 and Danny Naughton 72-34 making sure last on.
St Basils won 6-3 – B.Lane’s 67-43 opening frame the pick of the bunch.
Village B also 6-3 winners – Lol Ogburn opened with a 63-29 victory and Neil Webster’s 103-23 frame including a great 33 break made sure of the win. (Tony McDonnell knocked a 46 break for the WCC C)
Widnes Cons C won a close match 5-4 – John Rowan 93-13 and a 32 break for Colin Grindley just enough to take the points.
Division Three
Farnworth C beat a depleted Widnes Cons D 8-1 – Strong wins for Jamie King 72-26 including two breaks of 22 and Brian Cafferty 58-10 proving too much for their opponents.
Widnes Cons B faired much better, beating Farnworth D 8-1 away from home – Openers Tommy Gallaway 64-33 and Tony Grant 104-23 including a 20 break setting the pace in a one sided match.
Prescot Reform B won 7-2 – Ste Evans 52-38 and Ian Furbanks 69-36 doing enough to tame the Bowler.
Stobart Stadium C also won 7-2 – T.Goulden 77-34, P.Towell 58-34 and Mark Ogburn 45-43 including a 23 break.
Birchfield A beat RWMC 5-4 – Cliff Dicks 52-25 and Geoff Illidge 64-32 sealing the victory.
(Lee Gascoigne had breaks of 30 and 22 and Andy Relph had a break of 20 in vain for RWMC).
Stadium D also won 5-4 – D.Gerrard 49-48 and L.Lund 59-14 their winners.
Prescot Reform A beat WCC B 5-4 – Dave Minshall 61-36 and a superb 103-11 frame from Colin McCarthy making the difference.
